A real meat burger is almost unbeatable. Since the meat is the essential part of a good burger, the vegetarian version faces the challenge not to end up as a lame version of the initial idea. In this post, I want to share two tips for a great Veggie Burger that is in no way inferior – even without meat.
Tip 1 – Spice it Up
There are a variety of vegetarian patty mixtures that can be bought in a supermarket that only have to be mixed and heated with water. This is definitely a very fast version. If we are honest these are fine, but nothing we would lick our fingers for. However, you can easily add natural freshness and upgrade the burger by adding some finely minced vegetables to the mixture. Especially chopped red onions, red hot peppers and dried tomatoes are very well suitable to give the veggie burger a more aromatic taste and a bit of spice.
Tip 2 – Homemade Version
If you have enough time, you can also try to make your own vegetarian patties. The time and effort you invest always pay off. Since the homemade variant is rather advisable for multiple persons, I list the ingredients for 4 persons.
- 400 g White Beans (can)
- 100 g Breadcrumbs
- 100 g Cheese
- Olive Oil
- 1 Onion
- 50 g Mushrooms
- 1 Red Bell Pepper
- Parsley
- 1 Egg Yolk
- Salt & Pepper
- Flour
Mash the white beans for example with a fork. Finely mince all vegetables and mix everything with the shredded cheese. Knead the ingredients to a slightly sticky mixture. You might have to add a bit of water for the right consistency. Form the vegetarian patties with wetted palms and turn in flour before frying in a pan until they are golden yellow.
