A stroll through Zurich – My favorite spots

Zurich

Zurich, the charming Swiss city located at the Limmat River is not only surrounded by a stunning alpine panorama, but offers also one of the highest qualities of life. Switzerland`s cultural and financial capital is attracting people from all over the world – Join me for a walk through Zurich to show you some of my favorite places.

 OLD TOWN

Next to Zurich`s  busy main street, Bahnhofsstraße, the charming alleys of old town “Altstadt” are winding. Dotted with beautiful shops and boutiques, the historic heart is one of the most atmospheric parts of the city. The narrow streets are a popular tourist attraction that is frequented by visitors from all over the world, but if you depart from the main paths, you will find beautiful idyllic spots with well-preserved old architecture. The historic part of Zurich extends on both sides along the river. “Niederdorf”, at the other side of the Limmat, is a great nightlife destination with a great restaurant and bar scene.

Zurich`s University, residing above the roofs of the city, is probably one of the most beautifully located institutions. Even if you are not a student you should walk up or take the “Polybahn” to “Polyterrasse”. The huge terrace connecting both Universities ETH and University of Zurich offers one of the best views of the city  –  If you are lucky even a mesmerizing alpine panorama will unveil.

 GLOBUS

 – The Art of savoir vivre –

When you are shopping at “Bahnhofsstraße”, one of the world`s most exclusive shopping avenues, you should definitely pay a visit to “Globus”. The tastefully designed large store pursues an inspirational Lifestyle concept celebrating the art of savoir vivre in a one of a kind way. Enjoy a Prosecco and “Apéro”, the small snacks that are an integral part of Zurich`s everyday culture, or relax at the terrace of the Mediterranean restaurant. In any case, don`t miss their luscious delicacies department where you can marvel a large selection of fine food – even if it is just to get hungry. Schweizergasse 11, 8001 Zurich

 BANK

– Zurich `s coolest bank –

Die BankPhoto Credit Bank Restaurant

Where once the Swiss bank “Credit Suisse” resided at Helvetiaplatz,  the stylish restaurant BANK is located today. The coolest “bank” in Zurich comprises a café, bar and even it`s own organic bakery. In a boho-chic atmosphere dominated by high ceilings and industrial elements, you can choose from a diverse locally inspired menu: The hip eatery is luring with great sandwiches, chicken from the grill, various homemade treats and some of the best cocktails in town –  Definitely my favorite “bank” in Zurich.  Helvetiaplatz, 8004 Zurich

Zurich has lots of beautiful romantic parks and botanical gardens. The green areas surrounding the lake are popular retreats for  locals to enjoy barbecues and relaxing evenings in the summertime. “Arboretum Park” is a beautiful historic park along the shores of Zurich Lake perfect for a stroll in the shadows of old trees.

CLOUDS

As one of very few cities, Zurich has managed to preserve the charm of a big village. Instead of a towering skyline, prominent historic buildings and well-preserved old architecture dominate the city image. “Prime Tower”, Zurich`s only skyscraper, however, is an exception. At the 35th floor of the tallest building in the city, the upscale restaurant “Clouds” is located. Experience high-class gastronomy with a unique panorama and magnificent views – above the clouds of Zurich.  Maagplatz 5, 8005 Zurich

The scenic eatery “Rosso” is serving deliciously thin-crust pizzas in original Napoli style. Located in one of Zurich`s hippest neighborhoods, Zurich West, the warehouse turned restaurant is dominated by a minimalistic industrial design. The popular eatery gets easily packed especially on weekends, where it is advisable to make a reservation. If you want to try one of the best pizzas of Zurich in a stylish setting, Rosso is a must. With the close by Alps, the impressive Zurich Lake and Limmat River, Zurich offers the perfect scenery for postcard-like views. “Waid” is a part of summits of a wooded chain of hills from which you seemingly walk into the city that is peacefully lying beneath you. The breathtaking panorama is one of the best spots in Zurich for a romantic date ;).
