“Salsa” is the perfect addition to any Mexican dish. The spicy sauce is even more delicious when it is homemade. These are my two favorite salsa recipes for a Fresh Tomato Salsa, which is also called “Salsa Cruda” and a smokey Chipotle Salsa.
Chipotle Salsa
Ingredients
- Canned tomatoes (1 can)
- 3 fresh tomatoes
- 8 dried tomatoes
- 150 ml water
- 1 onion
- 1/2 small can chiles chipotles
- 1 tsp. oregano
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tbsp. vinegar
- Salt
- Fresh coriander
Instructions
Start by making cross cuts in the tomatoes. Cover the tomatoes with boiling water and let them stand for a couple of minutes. Peel off the skin and remove the stalk of the tomatoes. In a next step, chop the dried tomatoes and let them simmer in 150 ml water for a couple of minutes. Blend the fresh tomatoes, the canned tomatoes, 1 roughly chopped onion, 1/2 can of chiles chipotles and the dried cooked tomatoes (including water) in a mixer.
Heat the mixture in a pot with vinegar, oregano, cinnamon & salt and let it simmer for 15-30 minutes. When the salsa has finally cooled, sprinkle some freshly chopped coriander.
