It was in 1570, that the very first edition of the oldest Christmas Market took place in Strasbourg, then called “Christkindelsmärik”. Ever since, the tradition of Alsatian Christmas has been continued. Today, Strasbourg is home of  one of Europe`s biggest and most beautiful Christmas Markets. There is barely a place, where you can experience the magic of Christmas better than in “The Capital of Christmas”.

When the Christmas tree on Place Kléber is lit, the city of Strasbourg turns into a magical Winter Wonderland.  Dozens of kilometers of lights are spread throughout the city, wearing its most beautiful Christmas gown. Half-timbered houses are wrapped up in the most beautiful Christmas decoration, lining fairy tale streets with small patisseries & chocolate factories.  Against the impressive backdrop of the historic cathedral, 300 stalls are selling regional craftwork and Alsatian specialties. The old streets are filled with a lovely smell of Christmas spices, cookies & warm wine.

It is the combination of Alsatian charm and tradition-steeped Christmas that render Strasbourg its unique flair to which more than 2 Million visitors succumb each year. In 2016, Strasbourg welcomes Portugal as the guest country, whose tradition and charms can be found at the Portuguese village.
