Barbecues are one of the many great things to enjoy during summer time. An essential for every good grill party is a tasty barbecue sauce that sticks to your fingers. There are various types you can buy in a store – but nothing gets close to a real homemade Barbecue Sauce. This recipe is inspired by the Southern-Style barbecue tradition of Alabama. Flavourful, smokey with a touch of spiciness – this BBQ Sauce is the perfect addition to every summer grilling.
ALABAMA-STYLE BARBECUE
Ingredients
- 1/2 onion (finely chopped)
- Olive Oil
- 350 g Ketchup
- 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar
- 2 tbsp. Vinegar
- Diced Peppers (or spicy paprika)
- 2 tbsp. Bourbon Whiskey
- 1-2 tbsp. Dark Corn Syrup
- 2 tbsp. Worcester Sauce
- 1/2 tbsp. Garlic Powder
- Pepper
Instructions
Finely chop a 1/2 onion. Fry the onion in a small pot with some olive oil until golden brown. Add the Ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, Bourbon Whiskey, dark corn syrup, Worcester sauce, garlic powder and a good amount of pepper. Dice a pepper and add it to the BBQ sauce (or a spicy paprika powder) for some spiciness.
Let the BBQ Sauce cook on low heat for at least 30 minutes whilst stirring every once and a while. The cooking time is important, because the sauce needs some time to develop it`s characteristic flavour. Taste the sauce and add any additional seasonings if needed.
The BBQ sauce is perfect as a marinate for ribs or as a flavourful addition to steaks & chicken. If you store it in a glass jar, you can save the sauce for several days. Enjoy these summer days and
HAPPY BARBECUING!
