Holiday Spirits: Hot Winter Cocktails

I have been enjoying the lovely atmosphere at the first Christmas Markets with “Glühwein”, grilled sausages and the one or other cold nose. I love this time of the year, when cities are turned into Christmas Villages and everyone is warming up with winterly spiced hot drinks. For this first advent, I want to share with you 3 of my favorite “Hot Winter Drinks” to get into holiday spirits!

Pomegranate Mulled Wine

  • Juice of 2 pomegranates
  • 1/4 l cherry juice
  • 1/4 l white wine
  • 1-3 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 star anis
  • 1 stick of cinnamon

For the pomegranate mulled wine, press the juice of 2 pomegranates and heat with the cherry juice, sugar and spices (4 cloves, star anis and cinnamon). Heat everything (do not boil!) and leave for 15-30 minutes and remove the spices. Servings: For 2 glasses

Après Ski Jagertee

  • 1/4 l black tea
  • 1/4 l red wine
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 3 cloves
  • 20 ml (2cl) rum
  • 20 ml (2cl) fruit brandy

Jagertee is a popular hot drink for après ski from Austria. For the Jagertee, heat the black tea with red wine, brown sugar & spices (3 cloves, cinnamon). Leave for about 5 minutes and remove the spices. Serve with a shot of rum (and fruit brandy if you like). Servings: For 2 glasses

Spiced Orange Punch

  • 1/2 l freshly pressed orange juice
  • 300 ml white wine
  • 150 ml orange liqueur
  • 1 organic orange cut into slices, press 3-4 cloves into the fruit pulp
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 1 star anis
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar (if necessary)

Heat the freshly pressed orange juice, white wine, orange liqueur, cinnamon, star anis and brown sugar. Add 2 orange slices (with cloves) and leave for 15 minutes. Pour the punch through a sieve and fill into glasses. Servings: For 3 glasses
